About
Hi! Welcome to Gentle Christian Parenting. This site began as a place to encourage parents to raise children who love Jesus. It’s called Gentle Christian Parenting because we believe this quality of Christ, fruit of the Spirit, and command of scripture has been far too overlooked in recent years.
But as we dug into scripture to know Christ better, so we can share him faithfully with our children, we came to realize that are fighting a broader problem that affects all who seek Christ, not just parents.
Cultural Christianity sometimes contradicts scripture.
And that’s not without dire consequences both in the natural and spiritual realms. So we hold accountable, not only practices of unChristlike parenting being taught in churches, but any other popular teaching that dishonors Jesus and his work on the cross.
We preach Jesus over the traditions of men.
We Believe
All scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
All of scripture is intended to lead us to the person of Christ (John 5:39).
Every philosophy and tradition must be held under submission to Christ (Colossians 2:8-10).
What We Believe About Parenting
We believe successful Christian parenting is centered on Jesus – not the parents, not the kids, and not the pressures of the surrounding culture. Honestly, this blog is counter-cultural. We aren’t mainstream and we aren’t out there rehashing old axioms and philosophies.
We start with the foundation that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the model of how we are all called to live and engage with each other. For parents, this means we pull the plank out of our eyes, before trying to pull the splinter out of our children’s eyes.
Following Jesus means that we don’t tell our children “Do as I say and not as I do.” Instead, we live in a way that allows us to say along with the apostle Paul, “Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ” (I Corinthians 1:11).
Please join us on this journey to discover what it means to parent in Christ. Our goal is to inspire and encourage, not to dole out rules and formulas.
